Climate change, a global issue.
Floods, Cyclones, Forest fires, Tsunami, Desertification, we have become so much accustomed to these words that they no more sound alarming. The fact remains, however, that climate change is a threat to the exsistence of our world. Take a glimpse of how ugly the situation is according to the stats.
- Arctic sea ice has reduced by about 40% in recent decades
- Globally, 10 of the hottest years on record have occurred since 1990 (records began in 1861)
- It is estimated global temperatures could increase by up to 6°C, although some models suggest it could be almost twice this.
Not all is lost. There's still much we can do. Have a look.
- Use energy efficient bulbs. Turn off your computer or television when you don't use it instead of leaving it in stand by mode. Switch off unnecessary lights and fans when you leave the room.
- Drive less. Use public transportation instead. Make it a habit.
- When shopping, go for products made from recycling. Buy books with papers made by recycling. Not only are they cheaper, but it takes less energy to manufacture a recycled product than a brand new one.
- Consume locally produced fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Shipping of food to different countries also eats away a lot of energy.
- Plant trees. Utilize any space in your garden or your backyard, make it beautiful and green.
