Mona Lisa's true identity

Guesses like Mona Lisa is Leonardo Da Vinci’s girl friend, mother or Leonardo himself, have all been proved wrong. Recently found evidence by a researcher confirms the long held belief that Mona Lisa is actually the wife of affluent Florentine businessman Francesco del Giocondo.

Her name is Lisa del Giocondo, according to notes written in the margins of a book by a friend of Leonardo da Vinci as the artist worked on the masterpiece.

The Italians call Mona Lisa La Gioconda, which is the feminine form of Giocondo, the man to whom the lady in question was married. Mona Lisa’s smile is not enigmatic as people normally view it. The smile is rather jovial and the word “Gioconda” means “jocund” in English.

The reason why Leonardo painted Lisa is simple. He had no source of income during that time and thus considered painting the portrait of the rich lady.
